On Monday, March 30, 2026, the President of the University of Phayao delivered a welcome address at the official launch of the “Social Innovation Driving Unit (SID)” for Upper Northern Region 2, Fiscal Year 2026 (SID69). The event was organized by the Institute of Innovation and Technology Transfer, University of Phayao, at Happy Garden Coffee, Phayao Province, and was also broadcast via Zoom Meeting to enable wider participation from stakeholders across regions.

The ceremony was presided over by the Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) (NIA), who delivered the opening remarks online. A project overview emphasized the strategic role of SID as a key mechanism for driving social innovation at the regional level.

The program featured a keynote session on “Area-Based Innovation Funding Support” through social innovation mechanisms, providing insights into funding opportunities and innovation development at the local level. In addition, a panel discussion titled “Sustainable Social Growth” brought together experts and practitioners to share experiences and best practices in developing social innovations that effectively respond to community needs.

Participants also had the opportunity to engage in discussions, ask questions, and gain guidance on preparing proposals and applying for the SID program for Fiscal Year 2026. The event also showcased a range of social innovation projects, reflecting strong collaboration among sectors within the Upper Northern Region 2 network.

The Social Innovation Driving Unit (SID) serves as a vital platform to foster area-based innovation, strengthen collaboration among academia, government, private sector, and communities, and ultimately enhance quality of life while promoting sustainable development in Thailand.
