The University of Phayao has achieved impressive results in the recent QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, gaining recognition at a national level for its commit-ment to environmental sustainability. UP ranks 12th in Thailand for Environmental Sustainability and 15th in Thailand for Environmental Research, placing in the 1501+ group globally, alongside Burapha University and Krirk University. These results were officially announced on November 18, 2025.
This year's ranking features 2,002 higher education institutions from around the world, including 827 from Asia and 19 from Thailand. This marks a significant increase from previous years. The rise in the number of Thai universities included in the ranking is a testament to the country's continuous advancements in sustainable development. In comparison to the initial 2023 ranking, which featured only seven Thai institutions, the participation has more than doubled in just a few years.
The QS Sustainability 2026 assessment evaluates universities based on three core dimensions:
• Environmental Impact
• Social Impact
• Governance
It also incorporates five additional lenses, including international tuition affordability, scholarships, student diversity, English proficiency tests, and academic testing.
UP’s performance demonstrates the university’s strong commitment to advancing environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and good governance—driving forward its mission to achieve global standards in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
