RACE Organizes Training to Prepare Labor Skill Standard Assessors
Enhancing Personnel Competency in Mechanical Drafting with CAD

From August 6–8, 2025, Research and Academic Service Center of Engineering (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, organized a training program on Enhancing the Effectiveness of the National Skill Standard Testing in the field of Machinery and Production, specifically in Mechanical Drafting with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Level 1. The training was held at Computer Laboratory EN1301 with the objective of developing professional capacity and fostering collaboration in mechanical drafting using CAD technology.

The program was initiated in response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in computer-aided design and manufacturing, which play a crucial role in modern industries, particularly in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)—the country’s strategic industrial hub. CAD technology enables high precision, efficiency, and rapid design of mechanical components to meet industry requirements. However, there is still a shortage of qualified personnel with sufficient expertise. To address this gap, RACE established a short-term training initiative and set up a National Skill Standard Testing Center under the supervision of the Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labor.

This training focused on preparing experts to serve as labor skill standard assessors, involving more than 29 participants from both within the University and external organizations. Beyond enhancing CAD drafting competencies, the program also aimed to build a strong network of specialists in Phayao and neighboring provinces, benefiting both the academic sector and industry in the long run.

Furthermore, the initiative aligns with the strategic direction of the School of Engineering in equipping the workforce with future-ready skills, creating learning spaces for the community, and driving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG4: Quality Education, SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. This milestone reinforces the School of Engineering, University of Phayao’s commitment to becoming a “Knowledge Hub for Engineering, Industry, and Community” while preparing Thai professionals to remain competitive in the modern industrial era.
