On August 22, 2025, School of Engineering, University of Phayao organized the event “Engineering Homecoming” at the School’s EN1104 conference hall. The event aimed to foster dialogue on the future direction of engineering education, focusing on curriculum development that equips graduates for the evolving role of engineers in the digital era, with active participation from alumni of the School.
The discussion was honored by the presence of Mr. Wallop Youpinyo, an expert with over 35 years of experience in engineering systems. He shared valuable insights on labor market transformations, the growing role of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation, and the decline of certain traditional skills. Furthermore, he highlighted the essential qualities demanded by the industry—particularly in the fields of construction and industrial manufacturing—emphasizing adaptability, lifelong learning, and financial literacy as critical competencies for future engineers.
In addition, the dialogue addressed the limitations of current curricula and offered recommendations for improvement, ensuring alignment with the rapidly changing global workforce landscape. The exchange also underscored the importance of preparing engineering graduates to remain competitive at the international level.
