On August 16, 2023, the School of Energy and Environment (SEEN), University of Phayao (UP) organized a significant event – the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD). This MOU solidifies the commitment to enhance academic collaboration, research, and academic services.
The esteemed participants in this ceremonial signing included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, UP's President, representing the signatory. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Torpong Kreetachat graced the occasion as a witness. On the TMD's side, Dr. Chomparee Chompurat, the Director-General, played a pivotal role as the signing representative, accompanied by Mr. Bancha Kaewngam, the Director of the Weather Forecast Division and Acting Director of the Northern Meteorological Center.
The primary objective of this partnership is to establish a robust network dedicated to advancing meteorological research and expertise in the bound of climate change and atmospheric science. By harnessing the collective proficiency of both parties, the collaboration aims to cultivate fundamental knowledge and its pragmatic applications through an interdisciplinary approach. Moreover, the partnership strives to disseminate technological advancements and research findings to stakeholders within both the public and private sectors.
This cooperative effort has a broader mission – to bolster management strategies for tackling challenges arising from climate variability, climate change, and the nation's future air quality concerns.
"The enhancing of the upskills and re-skills of officers and weather station personnel holds immense significance. The disparity of current phenomena and the principles. Hence, the task of identifying fresh academic principles to augment knowledge carries both significance and challenge.," Said, the Director-General of the TMD.
