RACE Showcases IoT Innovation to Transform Wolffia Cultivation Highlighting Research Excellence through Phayao Media Networks
    

On 14 May 2026, the Research and Academic Services Center for Engineering (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Sutham Arun, Principal Investigator, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Erawin Thavorn, Research Assistant, and Dr. Songpol Pudwong, Research Assistant, participated in the “University of Phayao Distinguished News Spotlight through Mass Media” initiative organized by the Corporate Communications Division, Office of the President, University of Phayao.

The event was held at Ban Pong Kluea Community Enterprise, Mae Puem Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province, where the research team took part in a recorded media interview to present their Smart IoT technology and innovation designed to address challenges in Wolffia cultivation. The initiative forms part of the research project entitled “Development of Technology and Innovation for Future Food to Enhance Sustainable Economic Growth in Mae Puem Community, Phayao Province.” The project emphasizes the advancement of future food systems alongside sustainable grassroots economic development.

The research project focuses on the application of IoT (Internet of Things) technology to monitor and control water quality and environmental conditions in Wolffia cultivation systems. Recognized as a highly nutritious future food crop, Wolffia has gained increasing attention for its potential contribution to food security and sustainable agriculture. The Smart IoT system enhances operational precision, minimizes unnecessary resource consumption, and improves agricultural production efficiency. Such technological integration represents a significant approach to advancing smart agriculture in alignment with green economy principles and sustainable development goals.

The research team from the School of Engineering, University of Phayao, remains committed to transferring technological knowledge and agricultural innovation to local communities through the integration of engineering expertise, digital technologies, and community capacity-building initiatives. The project aims to empower local farmers to adopt modern technologies for occupational development and value-added agricultural production, ultimately contributing to the long-term economic sustainability and resilience of Ban Pong Kluea Community in Mae Puem Subdistrict, Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province.
