University of Phayao Participates in the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Thailand–China Relations
On July 1, 2025, the University of Phayao participated in the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Thailand–China diplomatic relations, organized by the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Chiang Mai. The event was held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai.

On behalf of Associate Professor Supakorn  Pongbangpho, Ph.D., President, University of Phayao, Associate Professor Phanintira Theeranon, Ph.D., Assistant to the President, represented the university at the event. The celebration aimed to commemorate the long-standing friendship between Thailand and China and to strengthen cooperation and exchange across various sectors at both national and local levels.

Mr. Chen Haiping, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Chiang Mai, presided over the opening ceremony and warmly welcomed distinguished guests, including consuls general, consuls, and honorary consuls from several countries.
Throughout the past 50 years of diplomatic relations, Thailand and China have developed a steadily growing and stable partnership that spans the economy, society, culture, science, education, and environmental cooperation — a relationship deeply rooted in the sentiment, "Thailand and China are not strangers, but brothers."

The event also highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) — a global development strategy proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The BRI seeks to enhance regional connectivity and cooperation across more than 150 countries through two major routes: the Silk Road Economic Belt (land route) and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (sea route). The initiative emphasizes collaboration in infrastructure, trade, innovation, education, and cultural exchange. Thailand has actively participated in the BRI, including through joint projects in transportation and sustainable development. The University of Phayao is committed to supporting such international collaboration as part of its mission to drive inclusive and forward-thinking global engagement.
