School of Liberal Arts Hosts Second Academic Advisor Capacity-Building Workshop

On Thursday, May 29, 2025, the Student Affairs Division, School of Liberal Arts, University of Phayao, held the second iteration of its Academic Advisor Capacity-Building Program for the academic year 2025. The event took place at the Active Learning Classroom, the university’s general education building.

The primary goal of the program was to enhance the capacity of academic advisors to effectively support students in various areas, including academics, personal development, behavioral adjustment, attitude transformation, and mental well-being. The training emphasized key counseling techniques—engaging in meaningful dialogue, active listening, and interactive communication—to help advisors assist students in articulating emotional distress, navigating challenges, and adapting behaviors constructively in response to real-life situations, all within the framework of sound psychological practices.

The event was formally opened by Assistant Professor Dr. Chittima Kaweera, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts. The workshop featured several expert-led sessions, including a lecture by Miss Orathai Katkhaw, a faculty member from the School of Public Health, titled “Listening with Insight, Seeing with Clarity: Recognizing Signs of Depression in Adolescents.”

In addition, Miss Thanyapitcha Singsatit, Head of the Counseling and Wellness Promotion Center, and Miss Patcharin Khuikam, Clinical Psychologist from the Office of Student Quality Development and Support for Students with Disabilities, led a session on “Creative Communication and Listening Techniques.”

Participants also engaged in two hands-on breakout sessions:

1. Basic Counseling Skills Practice

2. Experience Sharing: Reflections on the Role of Academic Advisors in the School of Liberal Arts

The workshop provided a valuable platform for academic staff to refine their advising skills and deepen their understanding of students' psychological needs, ultimately enhancing the holistic support system within the School of Liberal Arts.
