On Tuesday night of May 21, 2024, a group of administrators, staff, student club and representatives of students of University of Phayao including the School of Political and Social Sciences take parts in the so called ‘Peng-Pood alms round tradition, 2024, at Wat Morkaengtong, Maeka Sub-District, Muang, Phayao. It is a kind of activities in arts and culture preservation with its objectives to render collaborations between the university and the nearby community in reviving and preserving the indigenous traditions, and in creating a good relationship among the village, the monastery and the governing authority therein. It corresponds to the University motto: ‘Wisdom for Community Empowerment’. The consumer goods collected in this tradition will be appropriately distributed to the Maeka Community and the students of UP. The following are therein procedures:
- Lightening candles to venerate Arahant Upagutta
- Offering consumer goods to 108 Alms bowls
- Making wishes and throwing coins to Arahant Upagutta’s alms bowl
- Hand Dancing to venerate Arahant Upagutta
- Floor Dancing with joys and performing indigenous musical band
- Praying and asking for good fortune from Arahant Upagutta
- Offering consumer goods to 10 monks’ alms bowls
