The School of Energy and Environment (SEEN), University of Phayao (UP), in collaboration with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (Thai Health) and the Center for Clean Air Solutions (CCAS), organized an event to present the summary report of the project’s implementation to the inspection committee. The event took place in the SEEN’s meeting room, UP., on May 7, 2024.

In the morning, Dr. Wimonrat Sitisara, the head of the project "Strengthening Model Communities for Natural Resource and Environmental Management to Reduce Forest Fire Haze and Promote Well-being in the University of Phayao Network Area," presented a report on the fieldwork conducted to educate communities about the hazardous climate change situation, the impacts of forest fire haze, health issues and care, as well as fostering a conservation mindset and forming a network to stop open burning and monitor forest fires. This was done for 10 communities within the cooperation network in Phayao Province, with a total of 150 network members participating from Dok Khamtai District, Chiang Kham District, and Mueang District.

In the afternoon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saksit Imman, the head of the project "Establishing a Network of Environmentally Friendly Farmers to Prevent Dust Problems from Biomass Burning in Agricultural Areas of Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province," presented a report on fieldwork conducted to educate farmers about preventing dust issues, reducing biomass burning, health problems, and health care. A total of 72 farmers participated in the network. Additionally, an innovation was introduced by applying local wisdom to use the pot-rest combined with composting without turning the piles. This method involves using pipes to introduce air into the biomass material piles to accelerate natural composting and decomposition processes, which is faster compared to traditional pile methods. Solar panel-generated electricity is used to supply air.

Mr. Pitsanu Pannaracha, the chairman of the inspection committee, expressed his congratulations to the project team for successfully completing the project. He also recognized the potential of effectively applying local wisdom and anticipated that the results would be expanded to other interested network groups.
