Student of Demonstration School, together with the School of Science, conducted a thyme planting experiment with NSTDA in the Asian Herb in Space (AHiS) project, with the Japan Space Exploration Agency (JAXA) providing the opportunities to participate in project to study and research space crops for outer space in the future. The students conducted a 30-day trial of thyme planting on the Earth compared to planting on the International Space Station by using the same seeds as part of experiments with scientists from Japan and Malaysia. By experimenting with thyme cultivation at the space station, it is possible that thyme can grow in weightless conditions.
Now, The experiment at the International Space Station has been completed, and 12 groups of students have completed their experiments on earth. After this, the student will prepare a report on various aspects of the experiment to be submitted to the NSTDA in June 2021.
Moreover, On May 2, 2021 at 13.57 hrs. (Thailand time) Dr.NOGUCHI Soichi, JAXA astronaut who has been on various missions at the International Space Station, included a thyme planting experiment on the space station, has successfully descended from the International Space Station to Earth with a collaboration of Nasa-Dragon Crew Spacecraft (Crew-1). In addition, University of Phayao also received experimental support from the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University (Plant Biology & Astroculture Lab), Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization), Green Innovation Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Spaceth.co
