School of Engineering,University of Phayao, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Nuttanon Pongpanit, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Industrial Collaboration Development, together with School personnel, participated as representatives in the “2026 Buddhist Lent Candle Consecration and Offering Ceremony” held on 15 July 2026. The ceremony was organized by the Lanna Arts and Culture Center at the Multipurpose Area, Office of the President Building, University of Phayao.
The ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongsabangpho, President of the University of Phayao, who performed the ceremonial lighting of incense and candles in homage to the Triple Gem, and presented offerings, requisites, and meals to nine Buddhist monks. On this occasion, Lent candles were presented to various faculties and colleges to be offered to temples in the local community during the Buddhist Lent Festival.
The activity aimed to promote learning and raise awareness of traditional knowledge and ancient wisdom, while fostering the preservation, revitalization, and advancement of local arts, culture, and indigenous knowledge through cultural initiatives continuously promoted and supported by the University of Phayao.
Furthermore, the ceremony represented a collective effort to preserve and carry forward the longstanding tradition of offering Lent candles during the Buddhist Lent period, a significant religious practice among Buddhists. It reflects the value of safeguarding Thailand’s cultural heritage, while cultivating moral awareness, ethical values, and a sense of responsibility toward the preservation of arts and cultural traditions for future generations.
