On July 26, 2025, The School of Political and Social Science (SPSS) , the University of Phayao, co-hosted the 10th Ceremony of Celebrating Chom Thong Pagoda’s Adorning Cloths at the ancient Chom Thong pagoda , Srikomkam temple , Phayao. This was the collaboration between the University of Phayao (the SPSS , the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Education and the School of Architecture and Fine Arts) and the Srikomkam temple (royally- sponsored) , the Phayao Provincial Administration Organization, the Phayao Town Municipality and the Tourism Authority of Thailand ,Chiang Rai.
In this majestic ceremony Mr.Satjawit Leelawanich , the major of Phayao, had delivered a speech to welcome the participants before Associate Professor Suphakorn Pongsabangbodhi , the president of the University of Phayao, presided over this ceremony, which was also attended by Associate Professor Montra Pongnil, the SPSS’s dean along with its administration , lecturers , staffs and students. The number of participants was 700.
The aims of this project are to foster and preserve the local arts and culture , especially the Ceremony of Celebrating Chom Thong Pagoda’s Adorning Cloths - the important cultural heritage of Phayao. It also creates the opportunity for cooperation between the students , alumni and community via the activity of religion and culture which provides the students with the creative free times , raises their awareness of Thai cultural preservations and develops their moral compass through the Buddhist activities.
