School of Political and Social Science

On Wednesday, 23 July 2025, a research team from the School of Political and Social Sciences, University of Phayao, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Wannapa Thongdaeng, Deputy Dean for Strategic Innovation and Project Leader, together with faculty members, staff, the elderly music group from Mae Ka Huai Khian community, and students from the courses 191425 Research and Organizational Development, 191344 Cultural Heritage and Local Learning Resource Development (Community), and 193352 Innovative Project Management, organized a field study to support the development of a local traditional music band for the Mae Ka Huai Khian elderly group in Mueang District, Phayao.

This activity is part of the project “Development of a Local Music Band for the Elderly Group in Mae Ka Huai Khian, Mueang District, Phayao Province”, under the initiative “One Faculty, One Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)” of the School of Political and Social Sciences, fiscal year 2025, which emphasizes the integration of teaching, research, and community service.

The field study took place at two main locations:

  1. Kasalongkham Thai Music School, where the group was warmly welcomed by Master Sukhum Kaewsri, who shared his expertise and led hands-on demonstrations of traditional music. Elderly participants and students had the opportunity to practice and exchange knowledge directly with the local music ensemble.
  2. University of the Third Age, under Chiang Rai Municipality, where Master Phrommet Sapphasri shared experiences in organizing music activities that promote lifelong learning for older adults.

Beyond practical learning, the activity served as a cultural and knowledge exchange platform among elderly groups, researchers, and students. It strengthened ties between the community and the University and contributed to enhancing the elderly group’s capacity in local arts and culture.

The activity was rich in learning, dialogue, and practical demonstrations, inspiring both the elderly participants and students. It also underscored the School’s and the University’s role in promoting lifelong learning, preserving cultural heritage, and advancing sustainable social development through collaboration between academia and local communities.
