On Friday, December 26, 2025, Associate Professor Supakorn Pongbangpho, Ph.D.President, University of Phayao, along with the university’s executive team, presided over the signing ceremony of an academic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of Phayao and the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization). The ceremony took place at Bowon Rattanaprasit Conference Room at the University of Phayao.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aims to promote and strengthen academic cooperation, as well as facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise in the fields of astronomy, science, technology, and related areas. During the signing ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Phongbangpho, on behalf of the University of Phayao, delivered a welcome address and co-signed the agreement. Dr. Wiphu Rujopakarn, Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), represented NARIT and signed the MOU.
This collaboration focuses on integrating modern academic knowledge with cultural heritage to create added value and sustainable development. The partnership seeks to enhance cooperation in teaching and learning management, capacity building, and the development of students and personnel with future-ready competencies, particularly in advanced science, technology, and innovation. The initiative aligns with national development directions and responds to the evolving needs of society.
The academic MOU will serve as a key mechanism for integrating resources, academic knowledge, and expertise in astronomy, science, and technology from both institutions. It also emphasizes the linkage between scientific knowledge and cultural dimensions, fostering the creation of interdisciplinary knowledge and innovations that can be practically applied. Ultimately, this collaboration aims to improve quality of life and social well-being, support sustainable economic and community development, and promote the conservation and continuation of archaeoastronomical heritage, thereby highlighting local identity and national uniqueness for future generations.
