GIS-IDEAS 2024: Advancing Geospatial Innovation and Collaboration. Hosted by the School of Information and Communication Technology

GIS-IDEAS 2024
       The GIS-IDEAS 2024 Conference was successfully held from December 11 to 12, 2024, in Chiang Rai, Thailand, bringing together experts, researchers, and practitioners from around the globe to explore the latest advancements in geospatial technologies. Hosted by the School of Information and Communication Technology, University of Phayao, the conference served as a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and addressing pressing challenges in the field of geoinformatics.
        The event opened on December 11 with a warm welcome speech by General Chair Professor Venkatesh Raghavan. Following this, Assistant Professor Dr. Pornthep Rojanavasu, Dean of the School of ICT, delivered a detailed report speech for GIS-IDEAS 2024. The opening ceremony concluded with Professor Dr. Samur Thanoi, Vice President for Research and Innovation of the University of Phayao, delivering an inspiring opening speech.
Throughout the two-day conference, esteemed keynote speakers shared valuable insights into cutting-edge research and applications in geoinformatics:
• Dr. Pakorn Petchprayoon, Director of the Geo-Informatics Product Innovation Office at GISTDA, presented on "Geospatial Technologies for Disaster Management," showcasing innovative applications for real-time solutions.
• Dr. Susumu Nonogaki, Chief Senior Researcher at the Geological Survey of Japan, discussed "Smart GIS Applications in Urban Development," emphasizing the role of GIS in smart cities and sustainable planning.
• Dr. Tran Van Anh, Lecturer at Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, delved into "Remote Sensing for Climate Change Analysis," highlighting the integration of satellite data in climate studies.
• Dr. Natraj Vaddadi, Executive Member of the Centre for Education & Research in Geosciences, examined "Urban Groundwater Recharge through Rainwater Harvesting," discussing sustainable water management practices.
• Dr. Song Xianfeng, from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, discussing about “Enhancing Hydrological Modeling with Remote Sensing of Evapotranspiration and AI Techniques”
The conference also featured 57 paper presentations and 14 poster sessions, providing attendees with opportunities to exchange ideas and develop practical solutions to real-world challenges. GIS-IDEAS 2024 has solidified its reputation as a leading conference in the field of geospatial technology, fostering meaningful connections and advancing global geoinformatics research.
