On 6–7 May 2026, Assistant Professor Dr. Damrong Amorndechaphon and Assistant Professor Dr. Thanet Thongdetsri, lecturers in Railway Engineering and Technology, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, led a team of researchers and graduate students to participate in the exhibition and presentation of research and innovations at Asia Pacific Rail 2026 the largest rail technology and innovation exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region, held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC).
The University of Phayao participated in the event as an Academic Partner, receiving significant attention from both domestic and international visitors representing governmental agencies and private-sector organizations involved in the railway industry. The program’s strong emphasis on producing highly competent graduates in rail systems engineering was widely recognized by industry stakeholders.
During the event, the delegation also engaged in academic and technological exchanges with leading global companies in areas such as signalling systems, autonomous train operation technologies, and Digital Twin applications. These activities aimed to foster strategic international collaborations and strengthen Thailand’s railway industry toward sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
The Railway Engineering and Technology Program, School of Engineering, University of Phayao, is committed to developing highly skilled graduates with specialized expertise through the Thailand Academy of Sciences (TAS) mechanism, supported by the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B). The program is operated under the Higher Education Sandbox framework, which emphasizes demand-driven research and education aligned with real industrial needs.In addition, the program integrates collaborative partnerships with leading universities and research institutions both nationally and internationally in order to cultivate a highly qualified workforce capable of supporting major national railway infrastructure projects, particularly the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong railway project, while contributing to the advancement of Thailand’s railway standards. Owing to its distinctive industry-integrated educational model and its strategic contribution to national development, the University of Phayao was honored to participate as an Academic Partner at Asia Pacific Rail 2026 — a distinction granted exclusively to organizations demonstrating internationally recognized capabilities and excellence.
