On August 28, 2024, Asst. Prof. Suwit Panyawong, Vice President for Environment and Landscape at University of Phayao (UP), along with Dr. Surat Sedpho, Deputy Dean of the School of Energy and Environment (SEEN) for Student Development, student club advisors for the Nature and Environment Conservation Club, and student representatives, attended an award ceremony in recognition of the university's youth environmental activities (Green Youth) for the academic year 2023. The award was given for their project "UP Rak(conserve) Source for water and Care for the Environment," which was evaluated at the gold standard level. The project involved creating water-pumping bicycles and solar-powered water turbines from recycled materials to treat wastewater in the university's water reservoir. This initiative was integrated with the student organization and the environmental unit of the university's building and grounds department. Additionally, they organized a campaign and training on "Fat and Oil" for students and staff.
Furthermore, the same group of students received an honorary award for their project under the Climate Change and Environment Youth Network for 2024. Their project, "Compost from Water Hyacinths," involved converting the large amounts of water hyacinths from the university's pond into compost and molded pots for planting chili seedlings, which were then delivered to the Im-jai Kitchen of the Student Quality Development and Disabled Student Center at the University of Phayao. This project was evaluated at the silver standard level by the Department of Climate Change and Environment at TK Palace and Convention Hotel, Bangkok.
