On January 24, 2024, the Renewable Energy and Environment Research Center –REEN, School of Energy and Environment –SEEN, University of Phayao –UP, organized the event "Climate Change: the1st Carbon-neutral Tourism" as part of the 13th National Conference on Phayao Research. The event was honored by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, the President, along with the university's executives, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Torpong Kreetachat, the Dean, Lecturers, and distinguished guests from various organizations. The event took place at UP.
In the morning session, a seminar was conducted on the topic of "Future Perspectives and Transition to Carbon-neutral Tourism and Low Carbon National Parks." The event was graced by five distinguished speakers:
1. Asst. Prof. Supawadee Photiyarach, an expert senior from the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) and the CHAIRPERSON, TOURISM AND CREATIVE ECONOMY PROGRAM BOARD, Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC).
2. Mr.Komkrit Setbubpha, Director of Innovation Research and Development Division, National Park Office, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
3. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thamasak Yeemin, Director of nature-based tourism, environmental-friendly tourism and carbon neutral tourism.
4. MISS PHAKAMON SUPAPPUNT, Director Low Carbon Business Certification Office, THAILAND GREENHOUSE GAS MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION (PUBLIC ORGANIZATION)
5. Mr. James Andrew Moore, CEO of WAVE BCG Co., Ltd.
In the afternoon, there were special lectures on "The Impact of Climate Change to people health" by Mr. Nattapong Phowattanachai, from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (TPF), and on "Trends and Trends in the Use of Environmentally Friendly Products to Support Carbon-neutral Tourism" by Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, the President of the Thai Environmental Institute. This was followed by the presentation of academic works through oral presentations on "Carbon-neutral Tourism in National Parks," with the participation of 12 national parks from the northern region.
The event received research funding support from the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC), the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (TPF), and the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation.
