University of Phayao is one of the four universities in a new research platform and collaboration.

           The new research platform and collaboration between four educational institutions in Thailand: Chulalongkorn University, Burapha University, University of Phayao, and Naresuan University, has recently formed in response to the policy and strategy of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation in order to overcome any challenges at community, society, and national levels by using an approach strategy. This new partnership of the 4 universities from three research platforms (Global and Frontier Research Universities, Technology and Innovation Universities, and Area-based and Community Universities) and in association with National University of Singapore has an aim to strengthen area-based research to be accepted and acknowledged at the national and international levels.

Representatives from Phayao Province: Prof. Dr. Samer Thanoi, Vice President of University of Phayao; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phanintra Teeranont, Assistant to the President of University of Phayao; and Mr. Thawat Wiwattanakit from Magic Mountain as a representative of local entrepreneurs, participated in Reinventing University by Research Network Platform Academic Conference at Mandarin Hotel Bangkok on June 27-28, 2023.

Chulalongkorn University initiated this conference with the intention to assemble its researchers and other three reginal universities that share the same interests in overcoming the challenges faced by the country and in their regions. The main focus of the research from this collaboration would be to solve social issues with sciences and technology. “Chulalongkorn University commence this research network platform from 4 universities with a hope to strengthen our academic potentials which would benefit our community and society as a whole. The ultimate goal of this research network is to have a clear picture of what we are going to do and can be of interest to researchers within the country and from other countries. The universities were founded for man development so that the man can help develop their community. This process requires knowledge and information from various aspects to have an insight into the problems. Therefore, we [Chulalongkorn University] encourage the exchange of information and knowledge sharing to make the best of it for the people, communities, and environment,” stated Professor Bundhit Eua-arporn, Ph.D. the President of Chulalongkorn University.

In the conference, there was a special lecture on “An Overall Picture of Re-positioning/ Reinventing Universities Project” and interesting talks from researchers, community leaders, and local entrepreneurs from four regions of Thailand. The talks were:

“Bangsean80th Anniversary: Creative City and Municipality,” “University-Urban Design and Development,” and “Creative Tourism, Tourist Route to the Peak of Phu Langka.”  Throughout the conference, all representatives from different areas exchanged and shared their knowledge and information which would put academic work into practice and help solve tourism and city development problems sustainably.
