The Research and Academic Service Center of Engineering (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, conducted National Skill Standard Testing activities with the aim of promoting and enhancing participants’ knowledge, technical skills, and competencies in engineering technology. The testing covered two occupational fields: CNC Milling Machine Technician, Level 1, held from 3–5 September 2026, and Computer-Aided Mechanical Drafting (CAD), Level 1, held from 11–13 September 2026, at the Industrial Engineering Laboratory Building, School of Engineering, University of Phayao.
For the CNC Milling Machine Technician, Level 1 assessment, Mr. Suttipong Kongthong and Mr. Yothin Utthawang were invited to serve as instructors, providing technical knowledge, practical guidance, and professional advice to the participants. The assessment encompassed both theoretical knowledge and practical competency.
The knowledge examination evaluated participants’ understanding of CNC milling machine operation, automatic milling machine control, and maintenance procedures. The practical competency examination assessed participants’ ability to operate CNC milling machines and perform machining operations using automated milling equipment. These assessments were designed to determine whether participants’ competencies met the prescribed National Skill Standard criteria. A total of 34 participants successfully passed the National Skill Standard Test for CNC Milling Machine Technician, Level 1.
For the Computer-Aided Mechanical Drafting (CAD), Level 1 assessment, Mr. Yothin Utthawang and Mr. Anupong Chomkan served as instructors, providing knowledge and guidance throughout the testing process. The assessment similarly covered both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
The knowledge examination focused on fundamental principles and understanding of computer-aided mechanical drafting, including the fundamentals of mechanical drawing and the application of CAD software for mechanical drafting. The practical competency examination assessed participants’ proficiency in using CAD software for mechanical drafting, applying fundamental CAD commands, and creating mechanical component drawings. The assessment was conducted to ensure that participants’ competencies complied with the established National Skill Standard requirements. A total of 11 participants successfully passed the National Skill Standard Test for Computer-Aided Mechanical Drafting (CAD), Level 1.
Throughout the testing period, qualified specialists from the Department of Skill Development supervised, monitored, and oversaw the assessment process to ensure that all procedures were conducted systematically, transparently, and in accordance with the prescribed regulations and National Skill Standard testing criteria.
These activities reflect the important role of the Research and Academic Service Center of Engineering (RACE), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, as a key mechanism for workforce skills development. By integrating engineering knowledge with vocational competency development aligned with the needs of the industrial sector, RACE contributes to strengthening the professional capabilities of participants and enables them to apply technological knowledge and practical skills effectively in the workplace while meeting recognised professional standards.
The activities also align with the School of Engineering’s strategic direction to develop a workforce equipped with future-ready competencies and skills, while fostering engineering learning environments that support lifelong learning.
The National Skill Standard Testing activities were conducted under the operation of the Skill Standard Testing Center, University of Phayao, which is officially authorised by the Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labour, to administer National Skill Standard Tests. The Center plays an important role in promoting and enhancing professional competencies among students, university personnel, and members of the general public, thereby contributing to the development of a highly skilled workforce capable of responding effectively to the evolving demands of industry and the future labour market.
