On July 27, 2026, the Japanese Language Program, School of Liberal Arts, University of Phayao (UP), organized a career seminar on “Japanese Language Interpretation” at the Language Testing Center and Language Laboratory (CE1203). The seminar aimed to introduce students to career opportunities in Japanese interpretation and translation while helping them gain practical insights and prepare for the workplace.

The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Itthipol Buayoi, Assistant Dean, and Mr. Preecha Jaihan, Lecturer in the Japanese Language Program. Ms. Piyachat Buayoi, Translator at Bridgestone Industrial Products (Thailand) Co., Ltd., was invited as the guest speaker. She shared her first-hand experience in Japanese translation and communication in a professional workplace, along with insights into job responsibilities, essential skills, and career preparation for students interested in Japanese interpretation and translation.

During the seminar, students learned about the role of language professionals in organizations, particularly their role as communication bridges between Thai and Japanese colleagues. Beyond Japanese language proficiency, interpreters need strong communication and listening skills, the ability to understand and convey key messages accurately, and the ability to adapt communication to different contexts. An understanding of Japanese workplace culture and organizational practices is also essential.
The speaker also shared practical experiences and challenges from her professional career, giving students a clearer picture of the responsibilities and expectations of language professionals. The session encouraged students to identify the skills they should develop during their studies and consider how they can apply their Japanese language knowledge in future careers.
