University of Phayao Welcomes New Students with Traditional Bai Sri Su Kwan Ceremony

University of Phayao Welcomes New Students with Traditional Bai Sri Su Kwan Ceremony

The University of Phayao officially welcomed its new students, the "Fa Mui Chor 16" cohort, through the traditional Bai Sri Su Kwan ceremony, a cherished Lanna cultural ritual symbolizing blessings, encouragement, and a warm welcome into the university community.

Welcoming the First Semester of Academic Year 2026: Held as part of the "Open UP 2026" orientation program to mark the start of the first semester, the ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, together with the university's executive team. The welcoming event was proudly organized by the Student Organization, Student Council, Student Marshals, and Wiang student groups at Sa-nguan Sermsri Hall.

The Bai Sri Su Kwan ceremony is one of northern Thailand's most respected traditions, performed to offer good fortune, strengthen morale, and bless individuals embarking on a new chapter in life. At the University of Phayao, the ceremony represents a meaningful bridge between senior and new students, fostering friendship, mutual support, and a sense of belonging while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Lanna region.

By continuing this long-standing tradition, the University of Phayao reaffirms its commitment to nurturing students not only through academic excellence but also through cultural appreciation, community spirit, and respect for local wisdom as they begin their higher education journey.
