Professional Practicum Presentation Forum as a Competency-Based Evaluation Mechanism in Medical Technology Education: Institutional Implementation

Alignment with SDG 3

On 16 February 2026, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences organized a Professional Practicum Presentation Forum for fourth-year students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Program in Medical Technology. The forum was conducted at Room MD3301, Faculty of Public Health, and attended by faculty members and senior students within the program.

The initiative was designed within an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework, serving as a structured academic mechanism for evaluating professional competencies acquired during clinical and laboratory placements. Students delivered formal presentations synthesizing experiential learning from accredited healthcare institutions, encompassing laboratory workflow analysis, quality assurance and quality control systems, risk management protocols, and patient safety measures.

The forum functioned as an integrative assessment platform, emphasizing higher-order cognitive skills, including critical analysis, reflective synthesis, and evidence-informed decision-making. In addition to evaluating technical proficiency, the activity assessed communication competence, ethical reasoning, and professional accountability—core attributes required for contemporary medical laboratory practice.

Faculty-led feedback sessions facilitated alignment between curriculum design and evolving professional standards in medical laboratory sciences. The structured academic exchange further contributed to continuous curricular improvement by identifying competency gaps and reinforcing discipline-specific benchmarks.

From a broader institutional perspective, the forum represents a pedagogical strategy that supports workforce development in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-Being. By strengthening competency-based training and reinforcing quality-oriented laboratory practice, the program contributes to the preparation of healthcare professionals capable of enhancing diagnostic accuracy, patient safety, and overall health system resilience.

The implementation of this academic forum reflects the Faculty’s sustained commitment to rigorous professional education, quality assurance, and the advancement of medical laboratory sciences within both national and global healthcare contexts.
