ATTC UP, Organizes a Workshop to Enhance Knowledge in Railway Systems Engineering along the New Strategic Route: Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong

The Automotive and Transportation Technology Center (ATTC), School of Engineering, University of Phayao, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Damrong Amorndechaphon, Chair of the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Railway Systems Engineering and Technology, organized a workshop entitled “Development of Transportation and Logistics Systems for Railway Tourism Management: Linking Railway Routes from Thailand to Southern China for the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong Double-Track Railway Construction Project.” The workshop was held from 24–25 January 2026 at the construction site in Dok Khamtai District and Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province, as well as at the ATTC conference room. The activity aimed to integrate multidisciplinary knowledge in railway systems engineering and to enhance in-depth understanding of the strategic role of the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong double-track railway construction project.

During the workshop, participants conducted a site visit to key linkage points of the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong double-track railway project (Contract 2: Ngao–Chiang Rai section) in Dok Khamtai District and Mueang Phayao District, Phayao Province. The visit focused on studying design principles, construction processes, and project management practices of railway systems in real-world contexts. This experiential learning process effectively bridged theoretical knowledge with practical application, thereby strengthening participants’ professional competencies.

Subsequently, doctoral and master’s degree students from the programs in Railway Systems Engineering and Technology presented thesis research topics related to the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong double-track railway construction project. The session provided a scholarly forum for academic exchange, systematic problem analysis, and critical reflection on research directions aligned with national development priorities and the needs of the railway and logistics industries.

In addition, the workshop was honored by a special lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Anirut Khansaard from Burapha University on the topic “Development of Transportation and Logistics Systems for Railway Tourism Management: Linking Railway Routes from Thailand to Southern China for the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong Double-Track Railway Construction Project.” The lecture emphasized conceptual frameworks for transportation system planning, tourism-oriented logistics management, cross-border transportation network integration, and the role of railway systems in driving area-based economic development.

This workshop reflects the School of Engineering, University of Phayao’s commitment to systematically developing human capital, research capacity, and knowledge in railway systems engineering and technology. It also demonstrates the integration of teaching, research, and academic services to society in accordance with principles of integrated learning and sustainable development, while actively supporting regional and international infrastructure development initiatives.
