On Thursday, October 10, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, assigned Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon, Assistant to the President of the University of Phayao, to attend the "SDSN Thailand Public Forum 2024: Harnessing Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships for Accelerating SDG Implementation in Thailand and the Asia-Pacific Region." This forum was organized by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN Thailand) and held at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao in Bangkok. The opening ceremony featured a report by Professor Nuntinee Makanon, Deputy Director of the Network and Cooperation Department (SDG Move). The opening speeches were given by Professor Dr. Supasawad Chardchawarn, Rector of Thammasat University, and Emeritus Professor Surichai Wun'Gaeo, Director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Chulalongkorn University.
The event was organized to provide a platform for reviewing and exchanging views on the progress, challenges, and opportunities of sustainable development in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region. It was attended by over 120 participants from 10 countries, including Malaysia and Hong Kong. The main goal of the event was to establish a network of cooperation at both national and international levels, with a particular focus on environmental education and addressing four key issues:
1. Sustainable food and agriculture
2. Loss of biodiversity and ecosystems
3. Equitable energy transition
4. Education for sustainable development.
The event featured special lectures from emeritus professors, such as Emeritus Professor Surichai Wun’Gaeo, as well as presentations of research results from experts on SDGs from various institutions. Associate Professor Dr. Phanintra Teeranon, Assistant to the President of the University of Phayao, shared her knowledge on the topic of "Education for Sustainable Development in Practice: How to Teach ESD in the Face of Critical Sustainable Development Challenges." Other speakers included Ms. Shannon Kobran, Head of Education and Training at the SDG Academy, SDSN (joining online), and Assistant Professor Athapol Anunthavorasakul.
The SDSN Thailand Public Forum 2024 showcases a strong dedication to sustainable development by fostering collaboration among the government, private sector, and academia. This partnership will be crucial in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region.
