A team of expert researchers from the School of Science, University of Phayao, comprising Assistant Professor Dr. Siriwat Boonchaisri, Assistant Professor Dr. Arthit Nunthakhwang, Assistant Professor Dr. Phalinjaree Rangsayatorn, Dr. Pralongyut Sripalwit, and Mr. Phanuphong Chaiwongsaen, organized a crucial meeting to return the findings of their natural resource survey to the community of Tambon Champa Wai, Mueang District, Phayao Province. The meeting took place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the main conference room of the Champa Wai Sub-district Administrative Organization Office. Mr. Somchai Kwanjai, Deputy Chief Administrator of Tambon Champa Wai Administrative Organization (Acting Chief Administrator), presided over the meeting.
The primary objective of this meeting was to present in-depth data on plant species, aquatic animals, and fireflies obtained from the research team's detailed survey. This information will serve as a vital foundation for driving the strategic plan to develop "Nam Sap Nam Cham," a unique and highly potential freshwater swamp forest, into a new ecotourism destination in Phayao Province. The initiative focuses on generating stable and sustainable income for the community while rigorously conserving the abundance of natural resources.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to expand the scope of the study to include the diversity of bird species and assess the carbon sequestration potential within the swamp forest ecosystem. This expansion aims to ensure comprehensive and highly efficient natural resource management.
This activity reaffirms the University of Phayao's commitment to being a "localized university," dedicated to working hand-in-hand with communities to address local needs and solve problems. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 14 (Life Below Water), and Goal 15 (Life on Land), which will lead to sustainable development and genuinely improve the quality of life for local residents.
