The 19th National Symposium on Engineering Education “Transformation: The New Paradigm of Engineering Education”
On Thursday September 7th, 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, chaired the opening ceremony of the 19th National Symposium on Engineering Education, held from September 6th to 8th, 2023, at Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort in Thailand. The theme of this year’s symposium was “Transformation: A New Paradigm of Engineering Education.” The Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand, in collaboration with the University of Phayao School of Engineering, hosted this year’s meeting, which was made possible through collaboration with the Engineering department and the Thailand Institute of Education to provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge and establish guidelines for determining the direction of engineering education to keep pace with rapid global technological change.
Assistant Professor Dr. Chonlathis Eiamworawutthikul, Dean of the School of Engineering at Sripatum University and President of the Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand, welcomed the participants during the opening ceremony. Associate Professor Dr. Nattapong Damrongwiriyanupap, Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Phayao, outlined the project’s main objectives. Dr. Supakorn Pongbangpho, President of the University of Phayao, gave the opening speech.
“The university attaches great importance to the overall mission to local communities and society, especially the development of high-quality and high-potential manpower to strengthen students as ministers of society,” said Dr. Pongbangpho.
This venue is a space for exchanging ideas, learning, and presenting new teaching and engineering research that responds to the needs of the engineering industry. As a science that is essential to the development of the country, engineering must be continually developed in a rapidly changing world. Holding forums, introducing conferences, and exchanging learning results will promote development and applications, as well as build networks and promote cooperation, thereby strengthening engineering majors and further enhancing Thailand’s international competitiveness.
This year’s symposium included 33 presentations in 4 programs:
1. Learning management, 14 presentations
2. Linking the industrial sector and research with academic service, 9 presentations
3. Quality standards, 8 presentations
4. Activity education, 2 presentations
Mr. Somphote Ahunai, Chief Executive Officer of Energy Absolute Public Company Limited, gave a special lecture on the topic “Vision of Thai Industry and Expectations of Engineering Education” as well as an academic discussion on “The New Paradigm of Engineering Education.” His lecture was followed by presentations of articles about academic works and small group conferences.
At present, the Council of Engineering Deans of Thailand includes 65 engineering institutes across Thailand. The council organizes its annual engineering education conference to present innovations in engineering techniques, and is considered an important forum for academics, teachers, and administrators of the Faculty of Engineering. The overarching goal of the council is to develop teaching systems to modernize engineering in Thailand and across the world.
