The School of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Phayao successfully organized the 11th Democracy Youth Camp, under the theme “Glocalizing Democracy: From Global to Local”, from 16–18 October 2025. The event was supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation and held at the University of Phayao and Phayao Gateway Hotel.
The camp was chaired by Lecturer Siwatch Wannakomol, with undergraduate students from the Political Science program serving as project staff. The camp aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of democratic principles, promote local-level democratic integration, and build youth networks for national democratic development.
A total of 20 high-school students from across Thailand were selected from more than 400 applicants.
Key learning activities included:
- “Democracy from the Top” simulation exercises
- Lectures on Democratic Innovations by experts from Chiang Mai University
- A session on Democracy from Below
- A reflective learning activity through the film First They Killed My Father
- A hands-on workshop on Innovation Pitching Mastery
Participants designed democratic innovations and presented them on the final day.
The camp not only strengthened democratic literacy among Thai youth but also encouraged them to develop innovations contributing to community and national development, resonating with SDGs 4 and 16 and the School’s mission to cultivate “innovative public leaders for community development.”
